A look at the Mail Me Art 'Short & Sweet' book

Earlier in the year I posted my envelope featuring Boris (see below) to Darren Di Lieto for the new Mail me art project and today 'Short & Sweet' was posted to me with everyone's envelope artwork in, hurrah! You can pre-order a copy here

It's been fun looking through the book and i thought I'd blog about some of my favourite mail art piece's and also let you know about the upcoming exhibitions.

Mail Me Art is an international mail art project that’s been going since 2006 and has received thousands of submissions during that time. Our most recent contributing artists include Jon Burgerman, Jeff Miracola, Linzie Hunter, Rod Hunt and Steve Simpson to name a few.

MMA is going to be exhibiting at The Framers Gallery (London) from 30th July till 3rd August. All 240 pieces of mail art from 24 different countries will be on display at the exhibition. This will be the third show in the seven years the project has been running. The first one was called “Going Postal”, the second one “Medium Without a Message” and the current one is “Short & Sweet”.

All of the original art will be for sale at the Short & Sweet exhibition(s) with Animal Aid, WaterAid and the Teenage Cancer Trust each getting a percentage of the sales. We will be exhibiting the mail art again in our home county of Leicestershire at the Factoryroad Gallery on 9th August and Croft Wingates Art Gallery on the 17th August before posting the mail art off to it’s new owners.

To celebrate the launch of the Short & Sweet exhibition, we will be doing an open call for “Open All Hours” (the next Mail Me Art project) to coincide with the opening night. Mail Me Art: Open All Hours will be open to all: young, old, professional or amateur wannabe mail artists. Everyone is invited and we want you all to take part!
